I graduated in 2022 from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Design, majoring in Graphic Design. Across my degree and personal work, I've been most interested in the intersection between art and design. I love to use new technology to explore this intersection and push the boundaries of what design is.During my time at the University of Melbourne I found an unexpected love for architecture and took multiple architecture studios alongside my graphic design major, building my 3D skills and passion. Since graduation I have worked on 3D projects both in my full-time role and freelance.Since graduation I have been working as a multi-media designer for a Hobart based jewellery company. I've been able to employ my 3D skills creating product visualisations and animations. Simultaneously I've been practicing Graphic Design, creating weekly marketing EDMs, Visual Merchandising, Website Assets and Facebook/Instagram ads.

The team at Osulloc Tea Korea saw my viral tiktok 'Animal Crossing Spring Picnic' and reached out to me about reworking the project to promote their Cherry Blossom tea.The aim of the project was to use 3D techniques to create a scene resembling Osulloc's tea farm on Jeju Island during the spring time.

Initial Sketch/Proposal
The project begun with the client referencing a previous personal project of mine. They were interested in reworking it to be suitable for their brand and story. I created a sketch with image references which was provided to the client to approve before work started.

The most challenging parts of this project were the texture of the rock formation (aiming to match the volcanic rock texture naturally occuring on Jeju island), reaching the correct lighting and background colour & ensuring the tea colour was accurate to the colour of Osulloc's Cherry Blossom Tea.

During my final semester at The University of Melbourne, I worked in a team of three to create assets for the annual Graphic Design (GDES) student exhibition as one of our final assignments in the major. The creative direction was then bought by the University to be used for the annual exhibition for the University's Bachelor of Design (BDES) graduate projects. I provided the University's creative team with updated renders of the letterings - and with the creative direction of our team of three the University were able to apply our design across the campus to celebrate 2022 graduates from the Bachelor of Design.

Design Reworked for Print After Purchase for Bachelor of Design (BDES) Exhibition by the University of Melbourne
BDES APPLICATIONS
After the design was bought by the University of Melbourne, their design team worked on applying our groups' design across the university and city following the creative direction given from our team.
PROCESS
The project began with creating prototypes of the letters GDES in Blender to then be used in the first draft of the poster.

Our team felt that the lettering could be more experimental to reflect the nature of the University's student exhibition. I deformed the letters with more intensity in Blender and worked on more composition prototypes.

The new experimental assets began to lead our project in an exciting direction. We experimented with different text options behind the 3D assets as well as different colour ways for the branding of the event.

Working with translucent materials in 3DS Max made for a less flexible file but far more interesting outcome. The text being refracted through the 3D assets gave the poster the experimental, exciting aesthetic our team was after.

After the design had been bought by the university, I modelled a B to replace the G (BDES standing for Bachelor of Design, GDES standing for Graphic Design). The design was reworked in collaboration with the university to be more suitable for print.

Having the opportunity for our graduating project to be used to represent the graduating cohort from the 2022 Bachelor of Design was a huge privilege. I loved working on this project!

For this project I created a series of animations promoting 5 styles of lockets. The goal of the animations is to provide the audience with an understanding of the elegance and features of the product that the company provides. As four of the five lockets are of a similar style and have the same product features, I created a template animation and inserted the other four models into the motion in blender. The fifth locket features an inner panel and is engravable on the outer frame and inner panel - a new story board was created in order to effectively communicate the features of this engravable locket.

PROCESS
The original CAD files that the manufactorers use to create wax moulds was kindly provided to me by the factory that creates the lockets. This made the process of getting the models ready for animation much faster. The models simply have to be re-meshed and smoothed. The process of animating the engraved text to 'write itself' onto the locket was completed with advanced compositing techniques in After Effects. Multiple animations were rendered out - the text was animated separately in after effects and composited back onto the locket.
